Despacito is a 2017 song that was released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed track in the world within the space of six months. In 2017, the single Despacito which was a mix of reggaeton with pop music was not only a way to bring new attention to reggaeton music but also increased interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish mostly, and four songs in the year 2016. But during the peak of Despacito's fame in the year 2017, there were 19 mainly Spanish tracks that made the Top 100. And in 2020 the number was 41. Justin Bieber remixed Despacito 2017 in a bilingual version. Soon, other artists collaborated with reggaeton superstars like Drake and Bad Bunny with MIA (2018), Madonna and Maluma and Medellin 2019 A few performers of reggaeton lamented the trend towards mainstream music in 2020. However, a brand new band, Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the evolution and development of reggaeton. The incorporation of elements from electronic dance music and various other genres was a typical practice.
